"Today is May 6th. I got a email notice today saying my homeowners insurance is Past Due. The due date is May 27th. Rather disconcerting."

We are normal reaching out to client 2-3 weeks to kindly remind the renewal policy due date and premium, most of client are happy about it as this preview helps them to review their policy renewal term, or it helps when they plans the payment especially for those who is going to out of town and may miss the bill. However, we understand your point, we will note that do not reach out to you prior the actual renewal date comes. Hope that helps.
